I enjoyed creating this drawing
because of it's unusual view. I got the idea for this drawing when
I was looking down in a moment of personal sadness. For awhile I
was ignoring everything. Caught up in my own grief, I was oblivious
to everything that was around me. After awhile I sat down on some
rocks and looked below the water's surface. First I noticed all the
rocks, and then movement caught my eye and a little fish swam by.
I couldn't help think that the little fish on the bottom didn't even
know that I was there. Just as before I didn't know it was there.
We were in two completely different worlds.
I had two false starts with this piece. I tried it with colored pencils
and oils but neither really captured what I was after. It came through
in black and white.
This is a graphite drawing finished on December 2, 2001. It was created
on acid free 110 LB paper.
